Bruce M Hertz, MD Agreed to Pay $61,000 for Allegedly Violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law by Receiving Remuneration in Exchange for Ordering Durable Medical Equipment
On July 6, 2022, Bruce M. Hertz, MD (Dr. Hertz), Niles, Illinois, entered into a $61,020 settlement agreement with OIG. The settlement agreement resolves allegations that Dr. Hertz received remuneration from a telemedicine company in the form of monetary payments related to purported telemedicine and diagnostic consultations. OIG contends that Dr. Hertz solicited and received the remuneration in exchange for ordering durable medical equipment for which the Medicare program paid. OIG’s Office of Investigations and Office of Counsel to the Inspector General, represented by Senior Counsel David Traskey, collaborated to achieve this resolution.
