Dr. Craig Copeland Agreed to Be Excluded for 10 Years for Receiving Remuneration in Exchange for Ordering Durable Medical Equipment and Genetic Tests and Prescribing Medications
On August 3, 2022, Craig Copeland, M.D., Fayetteville, North Carolina, agreed to be excluded from participation in Federal health care programs for 10 years under 42 U.S.C. 1320a-7(b)(7). OIG's investigation revealed that Dr. Copeland solicited and received remuneration, in the form of monetary payments, from various telemedicine and staffing companies in exchange for ordering and prescribing medically unnecessary durable medical equipment, genetic testing, and prescription medications for Medicare beneficiaries with whom he had no physician-patient relationship and never examined.
